Extractions/ Wisdom Teeth
Many times teeth have to be extracted. This could be due to advanced decay, bone loss, or trauma. Most times, this will be dictated by your dentist. However, we have many patients that are self referred. We understand that most patients are anxious about having a tooth removed. We will try to make you feel comfortable throughout your visit. In addition, we offer intravenous sedation for all of our procedures. At Oral Surgery Associates, we feel confident in forming an opinion of saving versus extracting teeth. We always try to preserve a tooth if possible. We will work with your dentist to keep a tooth. If you do not have a relationship with a general dentist, we can help you find one.
Wisdom teeth usually do not have enough room for normal eruption. These teeth may never cause problems despite being in poor position. However, impacted teeth can lead to periodontal defects which affect adjacent teeth, cause infections, cysts or even tumors. Typically, they are fully formed at the age of 18. Therefore, the ideal age to remove them is between ages of 15 and 18. Everyone is unique, so these ages may vary.
